To Live (For SSA Chorus)

Composer: Ko Matsushita
Lyricist: Shuntaro Tanikawa

Words from composer:

2020 has become an unforgettable year for the human beings living on the planet because of the pandemic caused by Covid-19. We were deprived of our freedom to move about and were no longer allowed to sing. I composed this piece in hopes of providing people all over the world with a even a small sense of healing and courage even as they were losing hope. This piece would not have existed without the emergence of Covid-19.

After I wrote this song, the members of my chorus sang individually at home. We mixed their recordings and shared it on YouTube where it received a very positive response from the community. There were many requests for music scores and many people were able to sing again thanks to this publication.

The lyrics are an English translation of “To Live” by Mr. Shuntaro Tanigawa a beloved poet of mine. I chose the English text because I thought it would be easier for people around the world to understand the meaning of the poem.

This piece has 2 versions, one is for mixed four-part chorus and the other for female three-part chorus. I hope that all who sing the words of this poem do so with their prayers in mind.

Printed score and digital score are prepared. Please choose one below.
