Chiharu Wakabayashi

An Aquarian. He won the first prize and the Yasuda Prize at the 65th Music Competition of Japan, the Grand Prize at the 1st Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Per- forming Arts Works Entries, and the Grand Prize at the 1st Koreakan Com- poser Competition. In 2005, he did “Chiharu Wakabayashi Solo-Exhibition Concert V —Exhibition for choral works” at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. An invited lecturer at Akiyoshidai’s Summer Contemporary Music Festival from 2006 to 2013, his commissioned work and lecture “Works and Creation by UTU Concept” was premiered there. He has held 10 exhibitions of his works. CDs/scores performed by The Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo and others, CD “Koezukushi/ Otomeikyu: Chiharu Wakabayashi Choral Works” from ALM Records in 2013, “Uta no Hon (4 collections)” from Ongaku no Tomo Sha. Several of his works have been performed by the French contempo- rary music performance organization Accroche Note in 2014 and 2018, and several of his works have been performed in France by C. Drangle and M. Carroulli. In 2015, many of his works were performed in Cologne.

In 2016, his new work was premiered at the concert commemorating the 300th anniversary of the death of Korin Ogata & the 300th anniversary of the birth of Jakuchu Ito, co-sponsored by the Kyoto Art Center. In 2018, his “Hymn for the 1080th Anniversary of the Founding” commissioned by Naritasan Shinshoji was performed at the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, and in 2019, his work commissioned by the Leonard Foujita Foundation was premiered in France. In the same year, he produced a 50-minute epic work, “Plain Song,” commissioned by the male chorus group Courjoie. His CDs “Hara Kyoko/Haramirogi” and “Tama Kyoko…Pianissimo” received a special mention in Record Geijutsu magazine. In 2022, “Rin-0: Chiharu Wakabayashi Exhibition 2022” will be held in Tokyo and Kansai.
