In May

Composer: Kotaro Watahiki
Lyricist: James Thomson, B. V.

Words from composer:

James Thomson was one of the Victorian poets. He was born in 1834 in Scotland and is known for his masterpiece, “The City of Dreadful Night”.

His works are in pessimism and often dark and melancholy, but “In May” is brilliant among them. In this poem, the earth and all things shine, and the sound of bells echoes in a wonderful world.

I chose this poem because I was inspired by a verse, “Green flames wave lightly everywhere!”. I found myself longing for the way this poem expresses the brilliance of life despite his pessimism.

I hope you enjoy May with the beautiful sounds and fast rhythms.
