“Domine Dominator” was commissioned in 2016 for the 10th anniversary of Ko Matsushita’s choir “Utaibito Gombe”.
I was free to choose the text. Therefore, I chose Latin psalm No. 8.
First, Latin is perhaps the most universal language and accessible to everyone who reads Latin letters.
Secondly, in the psalms you can find many thoughts with a glorifying character. And this reflected the mood of the choir’s Jubilee celebration.
This also served to reflect the sublime character of the text through musical means.
The overall character of the music is solemn. There are also lyrical deviations, there are imitations, and there is conversation between male and female voices.
I basically maintain a vertical movement, sometimes combining it with the linearity of each voice.
