The Owl Who Loves Carols

Composer: Yuka Yamashita

Words from composer

I was honored to compose the finale of “Five Christmas Stories,” where five composers each contributed one piece, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary concert of the choir “Budō no Ki” (The Grapevine).

For me, Christmas songs possess a mysterious charm. They can make our hearts soar, evoke sacred feelings, or bring a sense of quietness and warmth like a light illuminating the darkness… As this is both the finale and a carol, I composed it hoping to capture such an atmosphere.

The opening piano represents the image of gentle, bell-like sounds resonating far into the distance through crystal-clear air. I hope the choir parts will be sung with a warm feeling that gently permeates the heart.
