Tarako Kazunoko (Salted cod roe and herring roe)

Composer: Ko Matsushita

Words from composer

The text is a poem by Shuntaro Tanikawa, a leading Japanese poet who sadly passed away last year. It is “Tarako Kazunoko” from the collection of poems “Warabeuta.”
The poem is not meant as a context, but rather to enjoy the interesting pronunciation of Japanese words, and the music is composed in a freestyle, adopting the form of Japanese Warabeuta (Children’s song).
The sounds and rhythms are not complicated. However, the whole-tone scale that appears in the middle of the song will give a fresh impression to singers who are not used to it.
I hope this piece will give children singers the wonderful experience of unaccompanied chorus.

Printed score and digital score are prepared. Please choose one below.
