Words from composer

While looking around my bookshelf and thinking that creating a two-and-a-half-minute set piece composition depends on text selection, I suddenly noticed a collection of Santoka’s haiku. As I turned the pages and selected a few verses that seemed to form a cohesive piece, I began writing with “mama yo” (a Japanese interjection), and the piece quickly took shape and was completed.
Santoka’s haiku harbors a sense of madness. When performing, I hope you will take this into consideration and experiment with tone and vocal style.
I believe that the pronunciation of Japanese does not necessarily need to sound entirely Japanese. This is because I am greatly interested in the expression that occurs when Japanese is “defamiliarized.”
I am looking forward to your flexible approach.
