Piccolo preludio religioso and Kyrie from Missa Japonica

Composer:Matteo Magistrali
Words from the Composer

About the Mass

This composition – for chorus and piano – was commissioned by dear friend and maestro Ko Matsushita in 2022; I love this piece because it’s a homage to the wonderful Japan (loved by me) and the friends who live there. Each section contains references to Japanese culture in terms of musical scales, sound clusters, rhythms, lyrics and musical quotation of melodies.

Piccolo preludio religioso (Little religious prelude)

It’s a solo piano piece that introduces the listener into the atmosphere and sounds of the Mass. and is composed from fragments of each section of the Mass.

Kyrie

Alternate sad and spiritual gathering moments with other that are incisive and sonorous, in which the choir, which often sings in unison, represents the entire people of the faithful turned to God to invoke mercy for their sins. The Christe Eleison it is an intimate and heartfelt dialogue with Jesus Christ, which contains as an homage, a fragment from Christe Eleison taken from the “Missa Tertia” composed by Ko Matsushita.
