Memorare

Composer: Ivo Antognini
Lyricist: Bernardus Claravallensis

Words from composer:

Alessandra, to whom this piece is dedicated, was a woman who possessed a great love for life.
She sang alto in the small church choir that my wife Patrizia directs. Alessandra lived every moment of her life with great intensity, and had a terrific sense of humor that she never lost, even when in March 2020 she was diagnosed with an advanced brain tumor.
I decided to write a piece for Alessandra, and thought it would be wonderful if she could sing it before leaving us.
In the fall of that year we were able to perform Memorare during the Feast of Virgin Mary, a religious holiday that was very special to her. It was a truly magical and touching moment for all of us in the choir, and for Alessandra.
In March 2021, a few days before she left us, the entire choir met in Alessandra’s front yard to sing some of her favorite songs, before saying goodbye to her for the last time.

Rest in peace, dear Alex.
