Hymn to the Future

Composer: Ko Matsushita
Lyricist: Minori Minazuki

Words from composer:

I composed this piece in 2015. I was a member of the Children’s Chorus Committee of the Japan Choral Association at the time, and I wrote this piece for the joint performance of the Children’s Chorus Festival in the summer of that year. The poem was written by Minori Minazuki, who is also a member of the Children’s Chorus Committee.

I tried to compose a song that would express the joy of singing together with our whole body. The tone range and rhythm are easy and the structure of the song is simple and easy to understand, so any child who loves to sing can easily sing it.

The piece is composed to be performed with piano accompaniment, but there is also a version for orchestra. The orchestra version was premiered on August 7, 2016, a year after the premiere of piano version, with all members of the Children’s Chorus Festival participating choirs and the Junior Orchestra Hamamatsu at Concert Hall of Hamamatsu Act City (conducted by the composer). For inquiries about the orchestral version of the score, please contact International Chorus Organization of Tokyo.

Wishing for a peaceful and healthy life of singing.

At Hachioji, October 28 2020.
