DILUVIUM

Composer:

Words from composer

The text of this piece is by Sebastian Brant (1457-1521). It is written in Neo-Latin and is about a flood that occurred in 1480 that destroyed most of the cities on the Rhine, including Basel. The chorus of male voices has an evocative sound that can become very dramatic and is very well suited for a text like “DILUVIUM,” which means flood. I imagined being an eyewitness to this great flood, feeling the fear and terror of the people who knew that the water would come at any moment and flood the city.
