Charity, for mixed choir and alto solo, is the English-language adaptation of the Slovenian-language composition Ljubezen (Charitas), originally composed in 2016 for female choir at the invitation of the Slovenian-Italian Ensemble “Vikra” and later also arranged for both mixed choir and for male choir. The source of the lyrics is the Hymn of Charity from the First letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians, with textual and melodic quotations from the Latin hymn Ubi Caritas, attributed to Paulino d’Aquileia.
It’s a celebration of brotherly love, a tender chorale with sweet and delicate harmonies enriched with some solo interventions.
