Ave dulcissima Maria

Composer:Matteo Magistrali
Words from Composer:

Ave dulcissima Maria is one of the sweetest prayers to the Virgin. The text begins with a greeting to Mary, composed in a homorhythmic way, with some melodic intertwinings between sopranos and tenors. In this section the harmonies are very delicate and iridescent and the setting is very calm.
Then two short sections begin: in the first, male and female voices dialogue in slightly excited way. In the following section -the most engaging of the piece – the melody is sung by the sopranos, while the choir accompanies in a rhythmic but delicate way.
The motet ends with a short reprise of the first part and a coda.
