Panis Angelicus (Latin for “Bread of Angels” or “Angelic Bread”) is a part of the hymn “Sacris Solemniis” written by Saint Thomas Aquinas for the feast of Corpus Christi.
The music represents, with delicacy and soft harmonies, the first verse of the text, which describes the incarnation of Jesus who makes himself bread for men.
The second strofa (stanza) instead has a decisive character in describing the majesty of the Trinity.
The piece, therefore, has a brief reprise of the first stanza and takes us back to a relaxed and delicate atmosphere
