Kentaro Shuto
A versatile musician active in composition, arrangement, piano performance, teaching, planning, and collaborative projects.
Specializing particularly in choral compositions and arrangements, he has received commissions from numerous professional and amateur organizations including the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo, Japan-Ukraine Music Association, Shonan High School Choir, Hiyoshidai Choir, Chor Friends, and Nawate Mixed Chorus. Notable projects include serving as arranger for the Kazuki Yamada Anthem Project and for BS Asahi’s “Beautiful Japanese Songs: Songs We Want to Leave for Our Children,” reflecting his extensive collaboration with The Philharmonic Chorus of Tokyo and media-related works.
His compositions and arrangements are published by Kawai Publishing, Panamusica, and Piascore. Recent works include “Sonata No. 1 for Horn and Piano,” the live composition concert “The Legend of Nawate,” the march “Lake Biwa Circumnavigation Song” for the Wata SHIGA Shining National Sports Festival 2025, and “Under the Tree of Our Hometown / Under the Tree of Happiness for Mixed Chorus and Piano.”
Recently, he has been focusing on BGM production using DTM. He graduated from the Department of Composition at Tokyo University of the Arts and completed his master’s degree in Composition at the same university’s Graduate School of Music.
Awards include the Asahi Prize at the 28th Asahi Composition Award for Choral Suite Works (2017).
