Words from Composer:
In June 2012, I traveled to Guizhou Province, China. From Tokyo, I flew first to Hong Kong and then to Shenzhen. From Shenzhen Airport to Guiyang City. I stayed one night there, and then went to the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. There, I stayed for several days and listened to folk songs by the local people and recorded and transcribed their music. It was an inspiring trip to learn about a different culture, and I was continuously moved by the warmth of the local people and the richness of their music.
This precious experience was for two choral pieces that I composed for the Shenzhen Senior High School Lily Girls Choir: two pieces of music mean one from the Miao people and one from the Dong people.
I would like to thank the choir Conductors, Ms. Wang Xizhen and Ms. Hu Manxue, and all the members of the Lily Choir for their great support. Once again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude.
Since the completion of this piece, the Lily Chorus has performed it on numerous occasions, and many choirs who have heard it have expressed an interest in performing it, which is why we have decided to publish it this time.
I hope you enjoy the music of the Miao people, which is beautiful, powerful, and full of the vibrancy of life.
